Opportunity Name:
DNR building state fair native landscaping volunteers |
|
Description:
Love spending time in the garden or outdoors? Help DNR staff prepare native plant areas around the DNR building to inspire State Fair visitors to go native! Encouraging the public to consider benefits of native landscaping is a great way to support wildlife.
There are three workdays for this event. May 22, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST will focus on weeding, thinning, transplanting, and cutting back woody plants. June 18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. EST will focus on weeding and thinning beds, cutting back plants, clearing overgrown walkways, and removal of unwanted saplings and invasive species. The third workday, July 17, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. EST will include the same activities and mulching.
DNR staff will be present to help direct volunteer activities and all ages are welcome. Restrooms and water fountains will be available within the DNR building. We recommend you bring a water bottle, snacks, and wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and sun protection.
Please bring gloves and small hand tools (hand shears, spades/trowel, hedge trimmers) if you have them. If not, we will have some extras. For questions about this volunteer role, contact Jennifer Boyce at jboyce@dnr.IN.gov. |
