Description:

The Kokoda Youth Foundation is a dedicated and passionate non-profit organisation committed to running experiential youth programs, which help young people gain physical and mental resilience, confidence, and instill in them the values of Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice through the story of the Kokoda Campaign in 1942.

The Kokoda Challenge is a signature event that embodies these values and is the main fundrasing avenue for the Kokoda Youth Foundation.

Position Overview:


We are seeking dedicated and organised Checkpoint Assistant Volunteers to support the operation of checkpoints along the Kokoda Challenge Course. As a Checkpoint Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and accurate tracking of participants as they progress through the event.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Checkpoint Setup: Assist in the setup of the checkpoints along the event ensuring they are well-equipped with necessary supplies.
  • Participant Check-In: Greet participants, verify they are with their team as they pass through the timing gates. You may also need to manually record their progress at the checkpoint using provided systems or materials.
  • Provide Refreshments: Offer water, lollies and good vibes to participants as they arrive at the checkpoint.
  • Maintain a clean and safe enviroment: You will need to ensure the toilets are kept clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Communication with Event Staff: Maintain open communication with event organizers and staff, reporting participant arrivals, issues, or concerns promptly.
  • Assist with Medical Emergencies: Work closely with medical personnel and emergency services to provide assistance in case of participant injuries or health issues.
  • Checkpoint Packdown: Assist in the breakdown and cleanup of checkpoints after participants have passed through, leaving the area in its original condition.

Qualifications:

  • Reliable and punctual with strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Basic first aid knowledge is a plus, however medics will be stationed at the checkpoint
