Task Description

 

Position Overview:

Let's Roll-a-Story! Students in grades 2 – 5 are invited to write a short story. This activity engages students by providing elements of storytelling while simultaneously supporting skills such as brainstorming and creative writing. Writing Buddies is provided at the Grant R. Brimhall Library once a month by trained volunteers overseen by a library staff member in a small group setting.

 

Key Responsibilities:     

  1. Agree to background checks (if 18 or older)
  2. Complete Writing Buddy orientation and training
  3. Commit to one full semester: approx. 8 weeks on Thursday
  4. Attend meetings as scheduled
  5. Work with individual and small groups of students.

Qualifications:                 

Volunteers must enjoy working with children and helping them improve their writing. The minimum eligibility requirement is a high school freshman.

Training and Support Provided:

Please schedule an orientation session to provide you with information necessary to help in your role as a Writing Buddy before the program begins.

 

Time Commitment:         

  • One Thursday per month from 4:25-5:45PM
